My day started a few blocks away from where I live. This was at an apartment building for retirees. I replaced a splitter and a couple connectors, but the real problem turned out to be the cable box. I replaced it and everything worked fine. In fact she had been unable to get her VCR to record but that started to work as well.
The next job was another apartment building for retirees. I was met in the lobby by a black man. He had an accent, possibly Jamaican. His apartment was filled with old tattered posters from the 80's of women in bikinis or just plain topless. He wanted to get BET. His TV was so old he didn't get any channels that high. He wasn't too thrilled about this, but there wasn't much he could do.
The next job was just a couple blocks away. I spoke to an angry lady through an intercom who said she couldn't do it today and that she wanted to reschedule for the weekend. Then she hung up before I could figure out exactly when she wanted us to come out. So I just scheduled it for Saturday.
Then I headed to another apartment building. The guy here kept complaining about his cable box changing the inputs on his TV. So I replaced the TV. I also got his big TV working. The coax input of his big TV wasn't working anymore, so I switched it to a different input. He was extremely happy I got his big TV working again.
So I dropped by home to use the bathroom and grab my cell phone which I forgot this morning. Then I headed to the retirement community to do a disconnect and then I went to lunch.
After lunch I went to the country club area. This was a huge house with an Escalade and a Benz in the drive way. A lot of interesting artwork inside as well. But no one answered the door, so I picked up another job in the fancy shopping district area. There was a very little very old woman. There was two young men here, younger than me. She kept calling them her friends. She said she had a problem with her Internet but it was working fine. So I canceled the job and left.
Then I headed to a house up north near a friend of mine. This was a large house. I saw some rabbits in the back yard. No one answered the door here either. So I headed to the next job. This was a house divided into two units. The door was answered by a guy in dreadlocks. He said nothing was wrong, but then he asked me to hook up his DVD player. So I came in and took a look around. There wasn't much in the way of furniture. They had a lot of shit in boxes. I went back out to get a cable and there was a police officer talk to some black woman in front. I'm not sure what that was about but the guy was hiding and trying to see what was going on. It turned out that their TV doesn't have a hook up for a DVD player, so I told them to get an adapter from radio shack.
The next job was near by. I was at at his place last week. In fact this is the fourth time I've been to this house. And once again it was their TV. The grandma was here in a bathrobe, that looked like it was about to fall off. She was watching Springer. She just wanted me to make the screen lighter and show her how to do it herself in the future.
It was still early so I picked up one more job. This was an apartment complex way south. It was a corporate account. Which means I dealt with a company who put some important person here. So I had to call somebody who told me whatever the guy was complaining about. Unfortunately I could find nothing wrong. The place had a few things in. I saw a couple of cans of Chef Boyardee on the counter. This guy probably makes 10 times what I make and this is what he eats. Afterwards I went home.
