My first job was at an apartment complex I hadn't been to before. It was a series of buildings broken into four units each. A round Native American gentleman. He was very nosey about everything I was doing to the point of annoyance. It took me forever to hook his TV up because he didn't have the necessary parts. Then he said that the previous owner left the place furnished, which left with all sorts of ideas as to what exactly that might mean, but for whatever reason I never bothered to ask further. There was this really awesome picture on the wall that looked like the cover of a Slim Cessna's Auto Club album. They had three very tiny dogs with purple ribbons in their hair that would not quit barking at me. The guy didn't seem entirely sure what he wanted, and would change his mind about things. But at the same time he would obviously have little to no clue about what he was talking about so would just kind of ignore him.
The next job was in an retirement community/apartment building that was only a few blocks away. Strangely enough as I show up at the front desk the woman there is on the phone talking to someone who is saying that the person who is moving into the apartment Iw as there for was running late and wouldn't be there until later in the afternoon. I talked it over with the staff and they let me in to do the install anyway. It was nice to be left all by myself to do the install. One thing I really enjoyed about it was there was no furniture or other crap to dodge to get my work done. The install itself should have been quick, but I couldn't get one of the phone jacks to work and it took me a while to figure out what the problem was.
I skipped lunch and headed to the next job. this was some brand new town-homes up in plasticland. The guy who answered the door was nice, his brother was there too. I was running later than I wished at this point so I started working fast to try and make up time. At one point I started talking to the guy. Him and his wife had just moved here from Washington D.C., he's here to work for the state legislature while his wife works for the forestry department. They had three different snakes and a lizard. I don't see that too often. His brother was asleep on the couch the whole time.
Next I went to one of the worst neighborhoods in my area, which is mostly apartment buildings. This particular building had been recently remodeled and is easily the nicest building in the area. Though all the cable had been severed in the process. This person in particular though had already had his repaired. I was there to install phone. The door to his place was busted in. He said someone looked in his window and thought they saw the stove on fire or something and called the fire department who kicked the door down when they arrived. There was nothing in the apartment and he spent most of the time talking about the things he's going to get. Like a 48" TV or buy back the laptop he sold to his boss. While I was there I upgraded him to have internet as well. Though the situation seemed sketchy I do get a commission off it.
