My day started at a little gated community, right near a school. There was an elderly gentleman here who, from the looks of it, lives alone. He described the problems he was having and talked about the last time someone was out here. I looked around and eventually found the problem outside.
The next problem was a little further north. This was a really nice home. I've always like this neighborhood too. The man here works from home. He works in the medical field. His wife does real estate. The guy wanted me to take off my boots, so I wouldn't ruin his nice carpet. This always irks me, but I' do it anyways. We discussed the problem and I wasn't too sure what it might be but we decided to replace the EMTA. The whole while we talked about computers. Mostly macs. He showed me this really nice custom built mac that he bought off some student for half price. The student was hard up for cash. I guess he disappeared too, cause the guy tried to call him and the number was disconnected.
The next job was in a high rise apartment building just south of the university. There was a couple of Indians (of the Asian variety) here. One was complaining about his slow speed. He would demonstrate this by trying to download some bollywood film. I replaced a couple things which didn't really help. Then I had to explain to the guy, that the problem wasn't with us.
Afterwards I headed to my first afternoon job early. This was a house that was nestled between a major park and an interstate. There was construction in front of the house so I had to park down the block. When I got there the guy explained that he had both a modem and an EMTA and the modem quit working so now he is using the EMTA to get on the Internet. So I took the bad modem off his hands. Then he showed me a downed line in the alleyway. Which I removed so kids won't go playing with it.
Then I had a brief lunch and went back to a job I was at last week. The one I was talking to yesterday on the phone. This time there was nanny there. The dog got the cone and bandages off and seemed a lot more mellow for it. I had been speaking to tech support earlier about this job so I already new what to look for and how to solve it. So I wasn't there long.
As I was leaving I noticed that one of my afternoon jobs had cancelled so I only had two jobs left. The next one was another little gated community, much farther south. The place was littered with all sorts of Native American art. Lots of ceramics that looked Central American. Tapestries and pantings on the walls. There was an elderly couple here. I only dealt with the with but I could here an oxygen machine in the back and at one point she said she needed to check on her husband. I looked around and determined the problem to be the modem itself. But as I was installing a new one I found out that our system is down. So I could not get the new one running. In fact its probably still down as of now.
The last job was a house in the same neighborhood. There was a gentleman here with his teenage daughter. He was telling me about all the problems he's been having with his modem and all the people who have been here. Unfortunately my meter was telling me nothing was wrong. Which meant I had to go through and replace anything and everything even remotely suspicious. This journey took me to the attic of course. While I was up there sweating profusely, as if I was in a sauna, my back started killing me. When I got back down the TV in his bedroom wasn't working properly, which meant I had to go back up there and mess with things some more. Eventually I had it all working again.
