As I was leaving the office today I noticed that my first job cancelled. So I called the next two to see if I could show up early. The I woke up and they were very confused. The second didn't answer so I found my favorite shady spot and read for a while.
I showed up to the first job. There was a hispanic man in the front yard with a small boy. The man was sitting on plastic furniture that looks like it was stolen from a fast food joint or something. They had a car sitting in their front yard. The neighbor was a white guy working on his car. He had a van that was covered in metal stickers (I don't know any of the bands, but you can tell by the design). I went inside and there wasn't a whole lot of furniture, but there were a lot of kids running around. He showed me a room with a computer sitting on the floor. There was a TV in the room and only one cable that was currently in the TV. He asked me to make it so that they wouldn't have to switch the cable between the Internet and the TV. I split the signal to do so then I started on the Internet. The modem wasn't working. The mouse for their computer was broken. They didn't even have a mouse pad. So I had to move the tracking ball with my finger to get it to do what I want which was very tedious.
Next I headed to a nice little house near plastic land, but not quite there. There was a young couple here. I noticed a police uniform in the closet. For some reason I assumed this belonged to the husband, but it could just as easily belonged to the wife. Hell they could both be with the police. They wanted me to create a phone outlet so they could get an alarm installed. We spent most of my time there just figuring out what needed to happen. The husband mentioned that the guy they bought the place from had flipped the house, so there was some things about the place that didn't quite make sense. Like the phones. I got the job done and had a quick lunch.
My first job of the afternoon was an apartment in a building along one of the busiest streets in town. The door was answered buy a large woman with tattoos and short hair. On first impression I thought she was a lesbian, but then she wouldn't stop talking about her husband. She kept talking about how he knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to hooking up TVs and how you don't want to be around him when he's mad. She herself has suffered a heart attack recently. I notice next to her bed she had soda, some candy and a package for some Hostess type pastry. None of which a person recovering form a heart attack should be consuming. She would also keep talking about how she missed the futurama marathon last night and how much she misses her TV. It was an easy fix.
The next job was a duplex a little farther north. There was a black couple here. The gentleman had his shirt off when he answered the door. The woman led me to the computer, then showed me a piece of paper from the last tech who had been there. The paper basically detailed exactly what I would run into. The problem was their computer and in the end I used my laptop to explain this to them. At this point the woman had taken the dog on a walk, so I explained everything to the husband. He seemed cool about it. I couldn't help but get the feeling that the woman was the main instigator behind my visit here.
The next job was in a neighborhood I really like. The houses are nice and modest. Which to me is very refreshing in this age of bigger is better. It seems every new house I see (Plastic land and the land of scrape offs) is overblown and gaudy, which is why I prefer older more modest homes. All that being said it is a nice neighborhood and I'm sure the houses are at least $500,000. There was a woman here with her friend. Her friend seemed to be complaining about her dating troubles. Actually she was complaining about the various men she had been going out with (one wouldn't make eye contact, etc. etc.) . The lady showed me to the modem and when I went to unscrew the connector it came apart in my hand. So I replaced it and left.
My last job was in a large apartment complex. It's very easy to get lost in this place. The apartment had a very peculiar smell to it. I didn't want to be there any longer then i had to. I soon as I got the paperwork this morning I knew that this guy had been accidentally disconnected. I used my powers of deduction to find his connection and reconnected him. then I headed home.
